Gurukul Mahila Mahavidyalaya was founded by Bhatkhande Lalitkala Shiksha Samiti in 2001 with an idea of women empowerment. It is the first Girls IT College of newly formed Chhattisgarh State.

Dr. Arun Kumar Sen founder president of Gurukul Mahila Mahavidyalaya had a vision of holistic development of female fraternity. By establishing Gurukul Mahila Mahavidyalaya Dr. Sen tried to frame his vision.

Institute was started with approximately 45 students in commerce, science and computer stream. At present approximately 1100 students are studying in institute. The growth rate is clear cut picture of achievement of vision.

Institute is affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur so we strictly follow the curriculum of university but our teaching learning methodology is designed for intellectual, social and personal development of our most important stake holders; students.

Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur (CG) has implemented National Education Policy in higher education institutions from the session 2024-25. In this context, teaching is also being done in the college under the National Education Policy. The main provisions of this education policy are as follows:-

03/04 year multi-disciplinary undergraduate Courses based on choice based credit system. A student can complete the 03/04 year undergraduate course in a maximum of 07 years. During the course period, if the student leaves studies for any reason after completing the first year under the "Multiple Entry Multiple Exit" provision, then he can leave the course by getting a 'Certificate' under that faculty, 'Diploma' after completing 02 years and 'Graduation' degree after completing 03 years. Students who wish to specialize in a particular subject or do research can continue the course for the fourth year and obtain the degree of 'Hons / Honors with Research'. Under this policy, multi-disciplinary education, conceptual understanding, critical thinking, skill development along with ethical values ​​have also been made a part of the curriculum. There is a provision of 30% marks in continuous internal assessment and 70% marks in end semester examination. To pass, it is mandatory for the student to get a total of 40% marks in both. Under Generic Elective, the student can take any one subject of other faculty as per his wish apart from his own faculty.
